What hardware and software do I need to use VIS?

What if I can see the video but can't hear it?

    • Check to make sure the volume is turned up on your computer. You should see a small icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your desktop in Microsoft Windows. Double-click the speaker to open the volume control properties window. All of the volume bars should be 3/4 of the way up and not muted. Also make sure the volume on your external speakers or headphones is also set correctly. Window Media Player also has a volume control. Be sure this is turned up as well.
    • If your volume settings are set correctly, you should hear audio. You may need to update your version of Windows Media Player if you don't hear any audio.

How can I rewind, fast-forward, or jump to other parts of the video?

    • Instead of having fast-forward and rewind buttons, you can use the seek slider to jump to another part of the video. Click on the seek slider handle and drag it to the right or left and release. The video will pause, then fast-forward or rewind and begin playing again at the point where you released the slider handle. Dragging the seek slider handle to the right "fast-forwards." Dragging to the left "rewinds" the video. For more control features, please refer the example below:

How do I resize the video?

    • You can also adjust the dimensions of the video to make it larger or smaller as noted below. We recommend viewing the videos at double size or 200%. This provides a useful-sized video window and maintains viewing quality. In some players on some computers, video dimensions greater than 200% may cause poorer video quality and performance.
    • In Windows Media Player 9 Series, select VIEW from the pull down menu at the top left of the player, select VIDEO SIZE, and either 50%, 100%, or 200%. You can also select FIT TO PLAYER ON RESIZE to match the size of the video to the dimensions of the player window.
